Hi there,
November is a busy month in an ESL room: Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and ACCESS testing getting closer. Here’s everything new from Claro Education to help you plan, including a few free lessons you can use tomorrow.
November lessons, ready to teach
- Election Day (Nov 3): A nonpartisan lesson plan for ELLs, with why we vote on a Tuesday, picture vocabulary and a secret-ballot class vote.
- Veterans Day (Nov 11): Respectful, classroom-safe ideas for K–12, plus thank-you cards every level can write.
- Thanksgiving: How to teach the real history of Thanksgiving, with the Wampanoag perspective and a Thankful Tree.
- Fall for K–2: Three picture-supported fall lessons that work even if your school skips Halloween.
Getting ready for ACCESS
If you teach several grades, one consistent, low-stress routine can get every student ready without a separate plan for each grade. New to the test? Here’s what WIDA ACCESS looks like at every grade.
For grades 2–3, ACCESS Test Prep Grades 2–3 is 10 days across all four domains, with a speaking day that models answers at levels 1, 3 and 5. Print or Google Slides, $12.
Free this month
- The first week of English for K–2 newcomers: a full free week of lessons.
- Describe It!: a print-and-go adjectives page for K–5.
- Have You Ever…?: a present perfect lesson for grades 6–12 with slides, student pages and an answer key.
New in the store
- Claro Little Learners, Weeks 2–5 (K–2): My Classroom, Numbers 1–10 and School Helpers, each with slides, K and 1–2 workbooks, picture cards and family pages in 14 languages. $7 each.
- Around the School: Nurse’s Office, Playground & Recess and School Library, each with a labeled poster, sentence stems and two digital games. $4 each.
- Grades 6–12 Newcomer Grammar: the full-year bundle, 150 days in 6 units, respectful for teens. $72 (save 25%).
Coming up on the blog
Teaching grammar to middle and high school newcomers, survival English around the school, grammar for adult beginners, sharing EL data with classroom teachers on one page, and more. A new post goes up every morning through Oct 28.
Hit reply and tell me: what’s the one thing your newcomers need most right now? I read every answer, and it shapes what I make next.
